Baul poet Durbin Shah was born on 2 November 1921 in Taraman Tila of Noarai village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj, now known as Durbin Tila. Father Safat Ali, mother Hasina Banu. He was the eldest of three siblings. He had an older sister and a younger sister. He passed five from Bagbari Primary School in Chhatak. He later married Swarupa Begum, daughter of Syed Ali of Jorapani village. His three sons are Jahan Sharif and Azam Sharif and Alam Sharif. His Pir was Syed Abdus Samad Guljedi, a servant of Ajmer Sharif. Durbin Shah traveled to Bilat with Baul Abdul Karim in 1986. At this time the expatriates awarded him the title of Sea of Wisdom. Besides, the song Durbin Shar Namaz Amar Hailo Na Aaday is used in the film Rukvik Ghatak starrer Takko Ar Gappo. It was sung by Ranen Roy Chowdhury. Durbin Shah died on 15 February 1986 at his home.
